Optimal has more than 160 years of combined business management experience, 160 years of combined technical experience and more than 250 technical publications to its credit. The team is headed by Mr. Roland Schoettle, an entrepreneur with a proven track record developing technology-based businesses.
Roland Schoettle
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Roland Schoettle founded Optimal Technologies to pursue new opportunities related to large-scale dynamic network optimization in the electric power industry -- where Optimal’s unique technologies have potential to create unprecedented industry, environmental, and consumer benefits. Mr. Schoettle’s current leadership role at Optimal is supported by his background in technology and engineering along with over 30 years of business development experience. Prior to launching Optimal Technologies, he founded and successfully led several technology-based companies -- one of which received the prestigious position of Canada’s number one re-seller of Sun workstations, and one for which he received an entrepreneurial award. An accomplished speaker and industry recognized expert, Mr. Schoettle’s past engagements include guest lecturing at the University of Calgary and California Maritime University along with such prestigious venues as the Commonwealth Club of California, National Academy of Sciences, Cleantech Venture Forums, and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
Soorya Kuloor, Ph.D.
Chief Technology Officer
With a Ph.D. in power network optimization, an electrical engineering degree, and over 10 years of research and development experience in power system design and optimization, Dr. Soorya Kuloor's knowledge, experience and expertise are unparalleled. Prior to his position as Chief Technology Officer at Optimal Technologies, Dr. Kuloor's diverse background has included technical development roles for major international technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies and Verano. His focus over the past 7 years has been design and development of real-time, distributed mission critical systems; integration of real-time systems into ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle; and design, development and testing of real-time SCADA databases. Dr. Kuloor has authored several publications on topics in the areas of optimal power flow, power system simulation, and sub-station switching. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Calgary and has the high distinction of having received a National Merit Scholarship in India where he also received his Electrical Engineering degree with honours.
Michael Woolard
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Michael Woolard is an integral part of its management team responsible for financial and fiscal management of Optimal's operations. Prior to joining Optimal, Mr. Woolard was the VP of Finance for Connexion Technologies, one of the leading FTTH companies in the United States. He has served as a middle market commercial lender for Bank One and obtained his CPA license in the state of Ohio while working as an auditor for KPMG, one of the largest professional services firms in the world. Mr. Woolard obtained his MBA from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. Over the past few years he has served as a lecturer at North Carolina State as well as The Ohio State University.
Lynette E. McInnes
Vice President, Marketing and Communications
As Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Lynette McInnes is responsible for product and market strategies, public relations, advertising, branding, and sales programs. She has been with Optimal Technologies since 2000, working closely with the Optimal team to help drive its industry-leading power network optimization solutions to market. Ms. McInnes has a successful 15 year track record of product development strategies, customer relations and communications. Her background of diverse assignments includes an award-winning California winery, top Nevada ski resort, and West-End London advertising agency. Ms. McInnes graduated Magna Cum Laude from The American Intercontinental University, London, England.
Richard E. Hammond
General Counsel and Vice President, Projects
Richard Hammond has served as Optimal's General Counsel and Vice President of Projects since July, 2001. Prior to Optimal, he was a Partner at the international corporate law firm of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe in San Francisco, specializing in environmental, regulatory, and transactional law. Previously, Mr. Hammond ran a private law practice that focused on industry government affairs, and was a registered lobbyist in California. His background includes such roles as Special Consultant to the Governor of California in 1981, and Undersecretary for the State of California Resources Agency from 1977-1980. This was preceded by a term as Senior Energy Advisor for the Governor's Office of Planning & Research and earlier as Staff Counsel where he was principal author of the "Energy Element, California Coastal Plan." Mr. Hammond graduated with honours from Harvard University, and holds a Law Degree, J.D., from Columbia University. Mr. Hammond is admitted to practice law in New York and California.
